BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP – What was once Pennsylvania’s third-largest tire dump site is targeted to be home to manufacturing and industrial firms following Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approval of a funding request by Green Knight Economic Development Corporation of Pen Argyl, according to state Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township).

“I applaud Green Knight Economic Development Corporation for its continued effort to revitalize our landscape by turning a negative into a positive,” Hahn said, referring to the corporation’s previous project on land that now houses the Techo-Bloc facility in Pen Argyl.

The CFA has awarded Green Knight a grant of more than $1.5 million and a loan of more than $2.3 million through Business in Our Sites, a Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) program which encourages communities to attract growing and expanding businesses by helping them build an inventory of ready sites.

The nearly 55-acre tract of lands sits between Male Road and Route 33 in Wind Gap. It once served as a slate quarry and was home to more than 2 million tires.

“The Department of Environmental Protection has removed most of the tires and is working with Green Knight to address the remainder of them,” added Hahn. “The total cost of turning around this property is estimated at nearly $5 million and is hoped to bring approximately 280 jobs to the area.”

Questions about this or any state government issue should be addressed to Hahn’s district office at (610) 746-2100.
