WHAT: State legislators from across Pennsylvania will participate in a legislative hearing to accept testimony from local job creators that have been impeded by Pennsylvania’s state agencies, complex regulations and cumbersome processes. Led by Chair of the House Majority Policy Committee Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) and Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township), the hearing will also include testimony from members of the local economic development community who are helping small businesses get up and running, and are working to attract new jobs to the region.

HARRISBURG – House Bill 218, the general appropriations piece of the state budget process, is headed to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk following a 173-27 vote in the House today. The bill calls for a minimal increase in spending and a substantial hike in funding for Pennsylvania’s public schools.

BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP – What was once Pennsylvania’s third-largest tire dump site is targeted to be home to manufacturing and industrial firms following Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approval of a funding request by Green Knight Economic Development Corporation of Pen Argyl, according to state Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township).

HARRISBURG – Legislation authored by state Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township) that would strengthen penalties for DUI offenders now sits with the state Senate after a near unanimous vote of support today in the House.

It is an honor to have been asked to serve on the House Appropriations Committee. This bipartisan group of members is primarily responsible for passing legislation dealing with expenditures of money by state government. Our first significant task involved the three weeks of budget hearings that took place in Harrisburg in late February and early March. The vantage point I had as a first-time committee member gave me a new perspective on the budget process.

HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Wolf today issued his budget address for the 2017-18 fiscal year to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. The governor’s proposed $32.34 billion spending plan includes no broad-based tax increases and sends more money to our public schools for basic education funding, PreK Counts, special education and Head Start Assistance.

While we have barely scratched the surface of 2017, the state of Pennsylvania has already passed the halfway point in its fiscal year….and we have some work to do. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, General Fund collections through December are more than $367 million below estimate. Sales tax receipts (more than $133 million below estimate) and Personal Income Tax revenue (nearly $126 million less than anticipated) make up more than 70 percent of the deficit.

WHAT: State Reps. Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) and Marcia Hahn (R-Northampton) are joining with Northampton Community College to host a “Financial Reality Fair” for the school’s students. The event will teach personal financial management by simulating everyday experiences.

BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP – On Thursday, June 2, state Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township) will host a public meeting to discuss the severity of the heroin opioid crisis in Northampton County. There is no admission fee to attend the forum, which will be held from 6:30 – 8 p.m., in Kopecek Hall’s Lipkin Theatre on the campus of Northampton Community College, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.

HARRISBURG – Legislation authored by state Rep. Marcia Hahn (R-Bushkill Township) that would change the penalties for driving with a suspended license resulting from a DUI (driving under the influence) conviction has passed the House overwhelmingly. House Bill 1861 may now be considered by the state Senate.
